There has been considerable debate recently regarding the emergence of the half hitch scarf knot. In the old days, you knew where you were; a quick up and over, a splash of eau de cologne, and you were ready to receive your guests in the parlour.
There was then a brief once-around period inspired by a certain Time Lord, followed ten years ago by the Hoxton half hitch, now sported by celebrities and hooligans alike.
Having emerged seamlessly into the mainstream and questioned recently by comedian Sean Lock, we thought it was time to discover the inventor of this recent and potentially dangerous method. The earliest protagonist seems to be a certain Dr Albert Hackett, pictured here in conjunction with the release of his 1998 paper ‘Flammable Polymers’.
